Tried and Tested: A Review on Lip Balms

A really cold winter can be a bit challenging for somebody who has problems with dry skin - that includes lips. I will never forget a one-week holiday in Canada in October, which meant that it was already below zero Celsius and really windy. I was in my early teens and didn't have anything remotely resembling a lip balm on me. The wind was constantly blowing and my lips got dry, so I figured I would lick them to moisten them up and ended up licking them pretty much all the time.

The result of this lip-licking mania was soon evident in only three days - my lips got SO swollen, they were burgundy red on the lines and saying that the were chapped is a really mild way of putting it. After these three days, my mom had to drag me into a nearby drug store where a really nice shopping assistant told us:''Oui, my niece 'ad ze same problem.'' She gave me a really rich balm that smelled like watermelons:) In a few days, my lips were saved.

So, after this experience, I take not one, but two lip balms everywhere I go. The problem with lip balms is that not every one is good for really dry chapped lips, so I decided to write a review on lip balms.

1. Burt's Bees Nourishing Lip Balm with Mango Butter. 100% natural. Price: Around 4 euros (4.25 g)
I like this lip balm. It smells really nice but very discreet (I hate lip balms with really strong fruity smells) and it is fairly rich in texture. I would recommend wearing it on mild winter days but as soon as the temperatures really drop, you will have a problem. It does not heal chapped lips very well and afterwards, your lips feel even more dry, so you have to constantly reapply it. I would give it a 3.5 on a scale of 5.

2. Labello Fruity Shine Pink Guava. Price: Around 2.5 euros (4.8 g)
This lip balm smells heavenly without being too aggressive. It is also slightly tinted and gives your lips a nice glow. But it does not heal chapped lips and after wearing it on a cold winter day, your lips feel like leather:( So my advice would be don't wear it in the winter, wear it in the spring or summer, so you'll get the most of your money. I would give it a 2/5.

3. Carmex. The Classic Moisturizing Lip Balm. Price: Around 2 euros (10 g)
This lip balm is a life saver! I love it. No matter how many lips balms I have tested, I always go back to this one. The texture is incredibly rich, it really really really nourishes my lips and after using it, they feel velvety and sexy and actually moisturized. I this that this lip balm is perfect and considering the price and how much of it you get for it (10g instead of cca. 4g like other lip balms), I think it's a fabulous bargain and in my opinion, a must-have for every woman. I would give it 5/5. WINNER!!!

4. Labello Hydra Care. Price: Around 2 euros (4.8 g)
I really like the texture of this balm. It's very velvety, moist and light. The problem is that it is too light, so you quickly well... eat it and that lovely velvety feeling is quickly gone:( I would give it 3/5.

5.Elanosol Lip Balm with Propolis, Honey and Beeswax. Price: Around 2 euros (5.2 g) SPF 15
This lip balm is pretty solid, I mean, it smells a bit too... medical, you can really smell that propolis inside and the texture is okay but it doesn't protect the lips from the sun or harsh cold, even though it has a SPF 15. So in that view, I am a little bit disappointed, so I would give it 2.5/5.

United Colors of Zagreb

I am crazy about colors. Especially in November because it's quite frankly the suckiest part of the year. October is fine because the trees are covered with colorful leaves and December is fine because it's white and full of kitschy Christmas decorations but November falls somewhere in the middle, I mean, the leaves fall off the trees, it's raining, it gets cold, there's still no snow. All you end up with are soaking wet tree trunks!

So, I am forever looking for colorful things in the shops and basically all around me. That way I wrap myself with the warm fuzziness of colors, colors, colors...

Shopping and Great Cafes in Zagreb

The best part about visiting Zagreb is SHOPPIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!!! I love shopping, shopping is my cardio, it's a great way to release the tension after a long week;)) Considering the fact that we live in a world of globalization, I avoided all the shops that I already know and we already have in Slovenia on purpose and wanted to ''explore new horizons'' with edgy shops with new brands and one of them was definitely Vešmašina:

The local fashionistas taking a photo of the Vešmašina:)

The Vešmašina display window. I personally fell for the Falling Whistles Necklaces (far left).
They are seriously cool. And they really do whistle;)

House of Harlow Jewelry, my personal favorite is the wishbone necklace (far right top)

I fell in love with Wildfox sweatshirts!

You do not want to piss the person wearing these shoes off.

The Inglot make up store was phenomenal with a wide variety of colorful make up to choose from.
I was like a kid in a candy store!

and Illamasqua store:

As far as cafes go, if you want to go for something homey and comfy, I would definitely recommend Cafe Amelie

This chestnut cake is to die for!

Another great Cafe is Velvet. Great ambience, great drinks, great pumpkin soup!

Extra tip: go to the Velvet in the evening, when all the pretty lights are on:)

I hope you found this post helpful,

Have a good one,

Street Style in Zagreb Day 2

As I was saying, there is no better place for people watching than at Špica, Zagreb. I love people watching. I always get such an inspiration when I see what they are wearing and what kind of things they combine. So cool.

I was really excited about my second day in Zagreb because the sun finally broke through the clouds and everything in Zagreb looked even more beautiful. Don't you think that the world looks so beautiful when the sun is shining? Seriously, all your problems seem so trivial and they just melt away and all that is left is the gorgeous sunshine...

This is what purgeri wear when they are walking on sunshine:

Have a nice Tuesday,

Street Style in Zagreb Day 1

After spending weeks and weeks in rainy Ljubljana I decided that it was time to leave my country for a short while and see something fresh and new. Although Zagreb is just a two-hour train ride away from Ljubljana, I don't go often there and now, after this weekend, I have decided that the time has come for me to start visiting Zagreb on a regular basis:) In terms of fashion, Zagreb will not disappoint, purgeri  (an old term for people from Zagreb) have an uncanny sense of style, whether they just go out walking their dogs or getting blinged up for a party. What they wear is truly a delight for the eye.

So, what is there for a fashion blogger like me to do?

Take the friggin' camera out of my bag, stop people on the street and take pictures like there's no tomorrow. Here's what I saw:

Have a happy Monday,

love,

Teja

Recipe: Muesli Cookies

I was experimenting in my kitchen yesterday and I'm telling you, these cookies are delicious goodness. I made four trays of them for my friends and they disappeared on me 0_0 I tried only, like, three:S
Time to make a new batch, don't you think? Here's the recipe:

(Makes about 50)

230 g butter
90 g caster sugar
100 g dark brown sugar
5 eggs
5 ml vanilla essence
350 g plain flour
5 g soda powder
a pinch of salt
15 g oat cereal
15 g ground cacao nibs
15 g raisins
80 g finely chopped dark chocolate
20 g cacao powder
20 g chopped roasted hazelnuts

Preheat the oven to 180C/350F. Cover the baking tray with baking paper. With an electric mixer, cream the butter and both sugars together until light and fluffy.

In another bowl, mix the egg and the vanilla essence, then gradually beat into the butter mixture. Sift over the flour, soda, salt and stir. Add the cereals, cacao nibs, raisins, pieces of dark chocolate, cacao powder, and hazelnuts. Mix to combine well.

Place heaped teaspoonfuls of the dough 5 cm apart on the baking paper. Bake the oven until lightly colored, about 15-20 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

These cookies are a great comfort food, because you can tell yourself that because there's oat cereal, raisins and dark chocolate in them, they are actually healthy, so you can eat a whole bunch of them.

Pha!
