DIY My Christmas card!

This holidays I wanted to send my friends from all over the world something really unique, therefore I've decided to make unique Christmas cards.

DIY My Christmas Tree

I have never done a Christmas tree post, mainly because since I have moved away from my parents two years ago, I haven't had an actual Christmas tree. Real trees are too heavy for me (and I won't settle for a small sissy one) and I hate fake plastic ones. So, the last two Christmases I have gone without a tree, but in my defense, I have decorated the rest of my apartment;)

I really thought that this Christmas would be no exception to my new no-Christmas-tree tradition, but then I met the Mellow Moose Team at the Christmas Vintage Fair I had blogged about a week ago, and purchased this really cute wood-and-wool mini Christmas tree. Without anything on, it looked a bit bland, so I decided to DIY it into the fabulous work of art that you see above:)

DIY: Jewelry Hanger

I have been living in my new apartment for almost two years now and the blank wall next to my bed has always been bothering me and I couldn’t quite figure out what to do with it. Do I paint it? No, because the wall opposite has already been painted. Do I make a collage of photos and hang them on it? No, because that would make it too busy and I want my bedroom to be my place of Zen. The problem are two radiator pipes which kind of tie my hands in terms of creativity.

Then it hit me – what if I incorporated the problematic radiator pipes into my new DIY project? I went to OBI hardware store faster than you can say ‘’Soul Fishing.’’

I have to admit, I never imagined having fun while shopping in the hardware store. And the best bit is that there is almost 90% only male customers! Okay, yes, it’s true that they are somewhat old… and grey-haired… and… beer-bellied… you know what? Let’s get back to my DIY project!

Diy Project: Recycle Your Old Jewelry

I love jewelry. I love it so much in fact, that I have not one, but… okay, I don’t know exactly how many drawers I have choc-a-block full of jewelry, some of it that I haven’t worn in years. You know how these things pile up, you get a few birthday presents with jewelry you’d never wear and then you lie to your friends that the bling is great in order not to hurt their feelings and then the bling stays safely hidden in the drawer.

Then, there are the impulse purchases; you think something is going to look great on you and you’re so psyched about it that you buy it, picturing yourself wearing it for the rest of your life, because it’s so friggin’ great, but then it turns out it’s completely impractical to wear. I remember purchasing a really cool pair of earrings, the design was and still is, absolutely perfect, I love them – but they are really very heavy. I mean, I don’t want to end up with drooping earlobes, like those old ladies from African tribes. So I don’t wear them, which is a shame because I do love them.

Tutorial: How to Make a Lavender Bundle

This is one of my favorite things to do in the entire world because it's so friggin relaxing. I swear, the lavender scent itself is enough to calm the most nervous of people. I would actually suggest doing this after a stressful day to unwind:)

Lavender has been used for centuries for its calming effects. It is beneficial for any stress-related symptoms, from headaches to anxiety. Interestingly, as a special bonus, it also keeps the moths at bay from your closets. And yep, you've guessed it: my closet is filled with little lavender pouches carefully placed here and there, but mostly stuffed between my woolen sweaters. A total must have for any self-respecting fashionista:)

TUTORIAL: How to Display your Jewelry

I love my jewelry, I've been loving it since I was about 13. Being a teenager in the 90s, with the whole grunge thing going on, I was actually into more ethnic stuff, with some elements borrowed from grunge, like... the rings. I remember having my fingers seriously blinged out, even for school; one teacher even commented: ''Teja, do you really need so many rings on your fingers?'' And my answer was: ''Hell, yeah, Miss!'' Well, I didn't actually say it into my teacher's face, because my parents would have killed me, but... I totally thought it!

Then, in my late teens, my ring period came to its natural end and after that I remember being seriously into earrings. The dangling ones. So much that one of my classmates asked me how many pairs of earrings I actually had. ''Seriously, Teja, how many? Like, forty?'' she'd ask.

''Seriously? Like, I don't know, okay?!'' Who keeps count of these things? It's not like they were  made of gold or diamonds or anything. They were ordinary bijoux earrings... and I think it's pretty safe to say, even though over the years, I had given like a half of them away to my friends, I still haven't got a damn clue just how many pairs of earrings I still have. Definitely less than in high school.

Now, in my late twenties, after outgrowing my dangling earrings period and developing a slight allergy to my beloved bijoux earrings (I'm going to miss you guys *sniff*), I only wear stud earrings made of either silver or gold. It's so strange, I feel more grown up and all of a sudden the feeling of having something dangling from my ears, which is by the way something I used to love, does not feel so great and awesome anymore. They bother me now.

Now, it's safe to say that I'm into necklaces. All kinds:)

Having said all that, you can only guess how much bling I've accumulated over the last 15 years. My answer is: I have no idea. I mean being the accessory addict that I used to be, my friends would also buy me bijoux jewelry for birthdays and stuff, so I finally had to ask them to stop because I seriously seriously had too much jewelry on my hands.

Necessity is the mother of invention they say and having one too many pieces of jewelry, I had developed several clever strategies of displaying all my bling bling in a fresh and interesting way. I hope you like it.

This is without a doubt one of the most original ways of displaying your bling: 

find an old crystal dish or a bowl and 

sprinkle as many petals from your favorite flower as you possibly can. 

Put some bling on top and: voila! 

I've actually picked up this trick while visiting an art fair.

 I remember two girls selling rings in a plain box filled with rice.

 I thought I'd upgrade it with crystal:) 

This was originally a decoration piece thought to simply hand on a wall, like a painting, 

and I thought to myself: why not create an earring stand?

Look what I found among my grandma's stuff: it's an old crystal snack plate, 

dating probably back to 1960s.

And I thought to myself: Why not display my everyday jewelry in it?

Tutorial: How to Clean your Makeup Brushes

You'll need:

A facial sponge, you can get them in Mue ller or drogerie markt

Some antibacterial liquid soap

Some lukewarm water

Wet your sponge with lukewarm water and squirt on a generous amount of the antibacterial soap. Let the sponge lather with the soap. Gently swirl the brush onto the sponge until it lathers up. Then, rinse the brush with lukewarm water.

When rinsing your brushes, don’t get water above the shaft or metal part. It would cause rust which will cause the bristles of the brush to fall out. Gently squeeze out any excess water from the brushes and lay them flat on a clean towel and allow them to air dry for at least 6 to 8 hours.

Tutorial: How to Make a Chic Personalized Agenda Book

I've decided to make a blog tutorial after getting a lot of compliments on my DIY agenda book, I had made about a month ago. I thought to myself: ''If people only knew how dead easy it is to make this... wait a minute!'' And here I am, blogging about it:)

You'll need:

- a Moleskin notebook lookalike (A5 format) that is sold in the top floor at Müller in Čopova Street (The original Moleskin notebook costs around 15 euros, whereas the Moleskin lookalike in Müller costs only 4 euros)
- scissors
- a long ruler
- some glue (I used UHU All Purpose)
- self adhesive transparent vinyl /a.k.a. a clear plastic film (also available at Müller) for about 3 euros
- a bunch of old fashion magazines

Let's start at the beginning, shall we? Got your fashion magazines? :)

Cut out all the pretty, inspiring pictures.

Recycling, Recycling

When I moved from my parents, I was rummaging around my grandparents' old stuff to find anything that I could reuse. Luckily, I found lots of really useful and surprisingly beautiful things, like this gorgeous glass tray that's actually my grandmother's ex glass snack tray. Mind you, I washed it:)

The only problem with this glass tray is that it has a huge crack on the left side, so I've recycled it into my personalized perfume tray:

I could not be more pleased with the outcome, the glass tray looks super chic and stylish with all the perfumes displayed. I think I've made good use of an old cracked glass tray:) And by the way, I don't know if you've noticed, but I've also recycled the vintage L'Occitane rose cream jar (left). My mom wanted to throw it away and I said: ''NO!'' - and now I use it for my jewelry:)

While browsing among my grandparents' stuff, I also came across these two mini glass bowls, so I made good use of them:

Then, I found this old jam jar. I think it's probably from the 1970s, but it could be older. My grandma used it for her bits and bobs. I washed it and now I use it for my cosmetic pads. I think it looks super chic:) I am really pleased with it.

TUTORIAL:How to Remove Candle Wax from a Glass Jar

This DIY project is so easy, you will be whistling a Demi Lovato tune while doing it:)

You'll need:
1 large glass bowl
2l of boiling hot water
some liquid soap
a sponge

I got this super nice smelling scented candle for Christmas from a friend and I loved the design! I burnt the candle til the end and then, I was left with this:

So, the candle jar was in a pretty bad shape, but I still thought the design was cute, so I googled ''How to remove candle wax'' and I watched a DIY video on Youtube. I was actually surprised at how easy it was! For some reason, I thought it was going to be messier:) So, I thought it would be nice to share this tutorial with you guys:)

So, here it goes: Put the glass jar into a glass bowl and pour boiling hot water into the glass bowl, and wait for 20-30 minutes until the old wax and the old glue from the stickers is dissolved.

See how the wax is slowly coming off and there is nothing left but the silver cored wick that has been glued on the bottom of the glass? The heat dissolves the glue on the bottom as well:)

Now take a sponge and some soap and scrub, scrub, scrub til you have a nice clean jar:)

Special tip: Fill the half of the jar with rice (I used red rice in the photo because I find white rice boring) - and stick your makeup brushes into it. That way, they will stand on their own and they'll come more handy when you need them:)

Tutorial: How to Clean Your Vintage Jewlery

I am vintage junkie and every time I to the flea market, I can't stop myself from buying at least one vintage jewelry piece. I really like the idea of having a unique piece to wear in this hyper-globalized world, where all of a sudden everybody has a neon mullet skirt stashed somewhere in their closet and ray-ban aviators in their accessories drawer, and of course they are wearing their hair in a top knot, like all the fashionistas from NY, USA to Stockholm, Sweden to Taipei, Taiwan.

Vintage jewelry is from the time before all this cookie cutter craze. I guess that's why I like it so much. I like holding a little piece of history in the palm of my hand:)

Vintage jewelry always gives a contemporary outfit an interesting twist. Because we do live in a hyper-globalized world where it's cheaper to buy a new necklace than mend the old one, I've decided to write a quick and easy tutorial on cleaning vintage jewelry which can also be applied on any kind of delicate jewelry.

Like in all my jewelry cleaning tutorials, I've used an environmentally friendly and bio-degradable ingredient that can be found in every kitchen. So, here it goes, you'll need:

• regular vinegar (not balsamic!) you'd use for salads
• a soup plate
• a brush with soft bristles (can be your old toothbrush)

 Let's take a look at the photo below. The necklace is quite tarnished (dark marks on the white surface) which is typical for the bottom part of the necklaces because it comes in direct contact with your skin, so the oils that your pores secrete in combination with a moisturizer and some dead skin cells is what tarnish actually consists of.
