Spring Inspired

Finally, I've found enough time for blogging! OMG, it's been an eternity. Promise to blog more:) After a long very winter-like week, the sun finally came out and it got really warm. All of a sudden, all my winter sleepiness went away and I was bursting with energy.

During the photoshoot, the light was just superb and the photos were taken with the sun in the background, contrary to the popular belief, that a person should be facing sun. Well, I wasn't. And I think that the result of the photos was just amazing. I didn't use any camera filters, all the light you see on the photos is just natural sunlight:)

Let's Party Like It's 1925!

The best parties are the old school parties, I always say, and in the spirit of the Carnival that had taken place in Slovenia this Tuesday, I've decided to blog about this vintage photo I had found in our family album. Isn't it amazing? The photo is from 1925 and it had been taken in the South of Italy.

The first thing that had caught my eye is the ornate decorations on the costumes as the party theme was 1001 Nights, so everything had to be extra sparkly. I love the pailletted jacket on the man sitting in the middle, I would love to get my hands on it! You know, anything with paillettes, feathers and pearls and I'm on board:) His feathery turban is also really cool but the butterfly costume is a total win, considering the fact that it was handmade. I am guessing that all these costumes were pretty much handmade, which is quite rare nowadays with all the ''Made in China'' plastic costumes that are being sold in the shops.

This photo honestly makes me want to jump into the picture and party along with these guys... or girls, because to be perfectly honest, I am not sure who is who. It's still and amazing photo and I love it, hope you like it to:)

Teja xoxo

How to Dress like a Hipster

We all have heard of them. We all have seen them. But what exactly is a hipster? The Urban Dictionary defines a hipster as: ''a subculture of men and women typically in their 20's and 30's that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter. The greatest concentrations of hipsters can be found living in the Williamsburg, Wicker Park, and Mission District neighborhoods of major cosmopolitan centers such as New York, Chicago, and San Francisco respectively.''

''O-kay,'' you say: ''But I still don't get it. I mean, I'm not even sure if I know what a hipster looks like.''

Well, let's create a hipster checklist:
1. You need a mustache. In any form. The hipster subculture is the only subculture that actually tolerates mustaches on women. And by that I mean any kind of jewelry with mustaches:)
2. Get a Clark Kent glasses with thick black rims. The geekier, the better. If you're a girl, finish off the look with a bright red lipstick and if you're a guy, grow a mustache.
3. Own a smartphone and instagram everything you see and then spend 15 minutes choosing one filter per photo.
4. Start smoking.
5. Wear skinny jeans.
6. Wear brogues with your skinny jeans.
7. Wear a really rich faux fur coat, the kind that Macklemore wore in the Thrift Shop video.
8. Wear a headphone around your neck like a necklace.

9. Wear lots and lots of ethnic stackable bracelets, combining vintage ones with the three-dollar ones you got at the H&M.
10. Guys, wear a bow tie and suspenders. At all times.
11. Girls, wear a vintage dress with a bib collar. With your brogues and with your faux fur coat. At all times.
12. As far as hipster patterns are concerned, the top three would have to be polka dots, hound's tooth and plaid. You can't go wrong with them.
13. Get a beanie. And wear it every day, even if it the weather is hot.
14. Guys, wear a bowtie.
15. Girls, wear a bowtie.

While I was doing my research, I found this table that I found pretty funny; it's a comparison between hipsters and old people and they're kinda right:)

I have used all these photos as a moodboard when I was creating a hipster look for the Carnival that we are having in Slovenia this weekend and this is the finished look, with all the hipster elements:
1. a beanie
2. a red lipstick
3. wayfarers
4. a sleeveless blouse buttoned up to the top with a chunky necklace
5. stackable bracelets featuring almost every bracelet I have ever owned, from 1920s, 1980s and 1990s.
6. stackable rings
7. skinny jeans
8.brogues (not shown on the photo)

Have a wonderful Carnival weekend!!!

Teja xoxo

My Winter Skincare Routine

This is my collection of current beauty favorites. I have a really sensitive and dry skin that is prone to tightness, so I have to take extra good care of it, which can sometimes be a bit difficult since I am a bit lazy and I like to think of myself as a fairly low maintenance when it comes to beauty. The thing is that when I get lazy, my skin punishes me for it - it feels really tight and sometimes it can get a bit flaky:( The good side of having dry skin is that I very rarely break out and if I do, it's only once a month:)
So here are my current faves:

1. L'Angelica Eye Serum - I have already mentioned it in my post here. It's really good, it evens out fine lines around eyes and makes my skin feel extra smooth:) I have to say that I am very satisfied with this product.

2. and 3. I am actually switching back and forth between my Korres tinted lip balm and Bebe Young Care intensive care lip balm. The Korres balm smells divine and it gives that lovely dewy natural finish, but I have to reapply it more often since it's not that moisturizing, whereas the Bebe young care balm luckily has a richer formula and it's perfect for really chapped lips.
TIP: Apply the Bebe Young Care lip balm before bedtime, you will wake up with incredibly smooth lips:)

4. My beauty secret: HONEY! Not only is honey a natural disinfectant, it protects and moisturizes your skin, so make a homemade honey mask once a week, it'll restore the natural skin balance.

5. Gehwol Med Foot Cream. As you've probably guessed, it's German, and only available in your local pharmacy, like SANOLABOR. The first time I've used it, I vowed never to use another foot cream for the rest of my life.

6.SORAYA BioRepair 30+ Day Cream available here.
This is my current favorite day cream.
It contains the micronised BLACK PEARL from the French Polynesia and it contains BLUE DAISY extracts which moisturize the skin and has an antioxidant effect. According to the their website, the product ''fights all skin ageing symptoms and effectively smooths irritations. It restores smoothness, elasticity and the bright appearance of the skin. Slows down skin ageing processes. Reduces discomfort and tightness of sensitive skin. Soothes irritations. It supports self renewal, strengthens the immunological system, restores the barrier function of the skin.''

I have been using this product for two weeks now and the cream smells divine, I just want to smell it all day long:) I'm a Soraya junkie, lol! The cream does make my skin feel smoother and it evens out fine lines, but I have to say that I did expect more from the product as far as moisturizing goes; the cream is not rich enough for my dry skin, I have to reapply during the day because otherwise my skin feels tight again. But I would definitely recommend this product and I would definitely repurchase it again.

7. Himalaya Herbals Face Peeling is a really wonderful product, the back says that you can use it every day, but I wouldn't recommend it; I personally use it once a week. It's recommended for all skin types, and it's free from Parabens, SLS/SLES, Phthalates and is 100% soap free which is really important if you have sensitive and dry skin. It contains apricot granules, aloe vera, neem, lemon and red lentil, all 100% natural and not tested on animals.

Teja xoxo
